Perhaps the skinniest healthy runner you will meet.  I am 6'-1" and 123lbs.  It doesn't matter if I run or not it is just how I am built.

I am 38, married (Aubrey) and have two boys Steffin (9) & Alex (6)

This race was certainly not what I expected or hoped for. Yes it was wet ( rained nearly the entire time), yes there was head wind for a lot of the course, and yes we spent waay to much time waiting for the race to start (2hrs+) but none of that should have made mile 12 feel like mile 20. My quads and hips were sore from mile 12 on. I desperately wanted to tuck in behind Devra an Tee when they passed me but there was no go. I have never had tightness like this before so I'm not certain where it came from. One of the consequences of not wearing Crocs this time around is that I had to re-tie my right shoe twice once at mile 3 and 8 ( on a positive note I didn't get any blisters). I was hoping that once I hit Ogden Canyon that I would be able to pick it up a bit, but that was short lived. At mile 20 I thought I still had a chance to break 3 hrs but by mile 23 I knew that was out of the question so I just did what I could to plod it in anxiously waiting for runners to pass me that I knew so I could congratulate them (many did). When I finally got to the finish line I worked through finish area rather quickly, met up with Aubrey and the boys (they did a great job enduring the rain), and slowly ( as fast as I could go) shivered my way back to the Hotel (fortunately only a block and a half away) for a hot bath and dry clothes. After a bit of rest I headed back to pick up my drop bag and, wouldn't you know it, it was beautiful outside (just a few hours late). My legs have improved through the day and all in all I am feeling rather well. I did enjoy running with Josh E for the first 8 mile and meeting and competing with so many running friends. I will get that Sub 2:50.

I think the cold must have got you. I hate passing fellow runners near the end of the marathon that are clearly better runners than I am. You'll get sub 2:50!!

Good battle today. It hit everyone hard

Way to hang on during such cruddy weather!

No doubt that the rain and cold hit "the skinniest healthy runner [I] will ever meet" pretty hard. Seems like the "little" do better than most in the heat but far worse than most in the cold. At least that is the theory I have formulated ... be it wrong or right! :)

Still ... you did AMAZING! Very impressive. :)

Nice working with you Chad. Those Altra laces are the worst. Just like Riley lost his mojo after stopping to tie his shoes and you did it twice and played catch up a bit. With the pre-race shivering and the stress of that, energy can just be sapped. I look forward to running with you in the future.

Nice to meet you at the starting line. Next time you'll get that sub 2:50 while you wear crocs!

With conditions like those, I think rough times were inevitable. I'm sorry the race didn't go as well as you had planned.

Nice job. Sorry Mother Nature hates you.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments, it really was an enjoyable weekend overall. And in all reality I really can't really complain about my worst marathon being a Boston qualifier.

Teena - you are probably right. The odd thing is that I really didn't feel cold during the race (just after).

Josh - I watched your green shirt in envy for many miles wanting to catch up the second time. We will certainly have to get in a few Saturday runs in over the summer and fall. I am always game for an Emigration Canyon run and I am certain you would love to run some hills in Herriman.

Great job hanging in there to the end:) and thanks for the little push at the end it helped!

Chad, it was nice to meet you at the starting line. I am sorry you were hammered by the conditions like I was. It was a tough day. We will both get our goal times soon though.

From Chad Robinson on Wed, May 22, 2013 at 22:25:14 from 71.219.25.82

Thanks Josse you did quite well.

Thanks James! We will have to get together on somes runs this summer. At least we both lived to race another day.

I think Teena's theory is right. Low body fat means that when it gets cold the carbs will be used for heat.

From josse on Sat, May 25, 2013 at 20:48:40 from 174.255.144.71

I feel like the cold affected me for the worse. If it would have only been a half it would have been fine but for as long as we were out there you body temps go down. I really wish I would have worn more clothes and been better prepared. You forget how the cold affects you when your in it for that long under dressed. These condition were very similar to sgm one year and my body did the same thing, meaning I felt the same. Only if we could control the weather:)
